Tokyo Dreaming in the BMC Grand Prix Series

We are excited to announce the 2021 BMC Grand Prix series. A lot of planning has gone in to try and make this our best ever season and we look forward to seeing lots of happy faces from those achieving PBs and qualifications. In 2019 we had six World Championship and twenty-six Euro Under Twenty qualifying times, the 2021 series will be paced with Olympic, U23, U20 and U18 championships being the aim.

UK Athletics have designated the first three Grand Prix meetings at Trafford 8th May, Sport City 29th May and Watford 12th June as Olympic qualification opportunities. Additionally, Watford will host the UK Under 23 and Under 20 trial at 5000m.

The BMC is grateful for the support of the Grand Prix by UK Athletics. Director of competitions Katie Brazier said “With competition opportunities still being limited by the pandemic, the BMC Grand Prix Series will be a very important part of our elite athletes’ preparation for this year’s Muller Athletics Championships in June, where they will be racing for Tokyo selection. UK Athletics is pleased to be supporting the BMC to continue to provide the quality racing environment they are well known for, within the context of ensuring a COVID safe environment for all involved.”

All the Grand Prix meetings will feature prize money to be won on the day, with a top prize of £1000 up for grabs in each event dependent on the time run.
