Guidance for parents around emotional, practical and nutritional support of their talented children.
Parents are fundamental to an athlete’s progression, yet there is little specific guidance targeted at them to help nurture their children. Often not from an elite sporting background themselves, they can feel somewhat in the dark when it comes knowing what best to do, second guessing their best judgements and under-estimating their supporting role.
Recognising this, alongside his mum, Caroline, former GB junior 400m hurdler Joe Fuggle developed the UK’s 1st dedicated athletics parent support platform: The Athlete Parent Place (by The Athlete Place).
In this presentation they will share with you key resources from the platform, including emotional support, nutrition, practical tips and tricks and more. Offering guidance, resources, information, and anecdotes from parents to current elite athletes, you will come away armed with the knowledge and confidence to support your children in pursuing their dreams…whilst also enjoying their time in sport.
About your presenter:
As a former GB Junior 400m Hurdler and Loughborough University graduate, Joe is now pacemaker to Niamh Emerson and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. He is using his own highs and lows in the sport to help others via The Athlete Place, the platform he created that enables athletes to learn from the lived experiences of other athletes.
