Another BMC record as Ellie Baker runs 1:59.52

The final BMC meeting of the season saw yet another BMC record in a season which has seen records tumble.

It came at Gilliingham on 3rd September as Ellie Baker ran 1:59.52 to set the all-time best for a BMC female only race, breaking Sarah McDonald’s 1:59.91 record from 2019. This was also the first time two ladies have gone sub-2 in the same BMC race, with Taryn Rawlings from the USA also going under two for the second time following her run at the BMC in Tooting..

Ellie’s 800m record adds to that of Laura Muir’s 1:57.23 this season in a mixed race and Ben Pattison’s 1:44.60, both at Trafford.

The record breaking did not stop with the 800m this year. Elliot Giles with 3:36.26 at Watford ran the fastest ever BMC 1500m

At 3000m and 5000m, the members U20 records both fell to Osian Perrin with 7:58.23i and 13:49.26. Callie Thackery’s 15:02.55 5000m has only ever been bettered by Laura Muir indoors.

In the Steeplechase Aimee Pratt set a British 2000m best of 6:08.17 at Birmingham, whilst at 3000m Brazilian Tatiane Da Silva’s 9:24.38 not only set a BMC all-comers best but was a South American record.
