BIRMINGHAM UNIVERSITY AC

On the Gate Entry

We will be raising money for the English Schools Athletics Association to help continue the fantastic work they do in supporting junior athletes and providing a pathway into the sport. We will be asking for a donation of £3 on the gate, with £2 going directly to the English Schools appeal, and £1 going to the university athletics club to help continue the growth of the Track & Field Series and other competitions in the coming years.

Warming Up & Competition Rules

Athletes will be encouraged to do warm up/down jogs, where possible, off-site – the nearby Canal and Vale sites offer plenty of open space for running.

Athletes will be permitted onto the track at least 30 minutes prior to their event start, please listen to the officials and volunteers to maintain safety around other events in the programme.

Where possible, field events will be permitted into the event area 30 minutes prior to event start to allow for full warm-up/preparations.

The track will not officially open until 17:00. If you arrive before this time, please do not attempt to enter the track.

No headphones are permitted within the competition area.

Athletes will have to abide by all UKA rules of competition.

This includes having footwear that is compliant for track races as per current World Athletics rules.

Athletes without compliant footwear will not be permitted to compete.

General Guidance

The track is marked as a waypoint on Google Maps, and is visible on satellite imagery. Please see the annotated map enclosed below to help locate the track which is tucked away behind the university conference park.

The main entrance to the track is down the side of Priorsfield conference centre on the Edgbaston Park Road (B15 2RA, G18 on the campus map) and will be well sign posted on the day of the event. Parking is available at any of the main university car parks – please aim to use the North East Car Park (off Pritchatts Road, B15 2SA).

Parking on site is very limited and as such, will be reserved for officials and blue badge holders only, via Tennis Court halls (B15 2RB).

There is strictly to be no parking on Edgbaston Park Road as this causes obstruction on some dangerous blind corners and could result in fines.

For parents/guardians/coaches in attendance, there is no seating available on site.

Dogs are allowed on site but must be kept under control on a short lead and all waste must be picked up and placed in the bins provided.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us: buaccomps@gmail.com

We look forward to welcoming you on the day. We hope you are as excited as we are!

Getting here by Train

The university is well connected by train and boasts its own station ‘University’. From Birmingham New Street, it takes just 7 minutes to get to University station with up to six trains an hour (final destination Bromsgrove or Redditch). Alternatively, the train from Longbridge to University takes just 12 minutes (final destination Lichfield City or Four Oaks). From the station it is then just under a mile walk to the track.

If you are travelling by train, on arrival at University Station please turn left out of the station and follow the road round to the left towards the library and up the hill to Pritchatts Road.

By Bus

The X20, X21 and X22 services operate frequently, connecting the university campus to the city centre and New Street Station, with a stop located outside each of the entrances to the track (Westmere and Somerset Road stops). These services can also be used to get from university station to the track. Contactless payment is accepted, and if paying in cash, exact change is required. For more information visit the National Express website.

By Car

University car parking is preferable for use on the day. Use North East Car Park (B15 2SA) in the first instance as this is the largest university car park and the closest to the track. Failing that, Pritchatts Road Car Park (B15 2QU) and West Gate Car Park (B15 2QU) can be used. If travelling from the South, Longbridge Train Station operates a Park and Ride service with trains to University station running frequently and taking just 12 minutes to get to campus.

Please note that Birmingham has employed a Clean Air Zone around the City Centre – if driving through this zone, please check whether or not you will be charged: https://www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones.
