I joined the BMC in 1975 as a 13 year old to run in the races organised by Frank Horwill at Crystal Palace, in my first race I broke my 800m PB by 6.5s and was sold on the benefits of the BMC! I have maintained my membership ever since. When my racing career was winding down, I wanted to stay involved in the club and in 1995 offered to organise a race for the opening of my hometown track Sutton Arena. Since then I have organised at many venues particularly Watford which has built a legendary status for fast times. As Grand Prix director since 1999 I have overseen the meetings across the country and seen a huge number of personal bests and qualifications achieved. I became chairman of the club in 2006 and have sort to keep the club as relevant to today’s athletes, as it was to me when I joined, modernising what we do but staying true to core principles.
