2010 International Races

All BMC Grand Prix races will be paced to a high standard. To supplement this some races designated as international races we will aim to have exceptional quality competition with invited international athletes of a high standard and top domestic competitors.

As the first two fixtures are before the UK trials for the European Championships and we will be concentrating the international races on these meetings.

For the 29th May event at Sport City we will have selected international races depending on the interest from UK competitors. (See this website for the latest news.)

At the Watford meeting on 12th June the 800m and 1500m races for both men and women will be international races and the longer distances will also be targeted as quality races.

The BMC has set a target for overseas athletes to have achieved to be invited to the International races.

The British Milers Club organises fast paced Middle Distance races in the UK and wants to promote its Grand Prix structure to athletes from across Europe.
• The majority of Britain’s endurance athletes have used our races including: Lisa Dobriskey, Jenny Meadows, Kelly Holmes, Paula Radcliffe, Mo Farah, Michael Rimmer, Andy Baddeley, Mike East as well as Seb Coe, Steve Ovett and Steve Cram.
• British Milers Club Grand Prix race evenings consist of races over 800, 1500m, 5000m, and 3000m Steeplechase only with a highly organised fast paced running order.
• A knowledgeable endurance community supports the races and athletes leading to an atmosphere that promotes fast times and personal bests.
• The Watford Woodside Stadium in North London is historically a fast venue. The stadium is protected by trees leading to a sheltered, windless track that suits endurance athletes.
• Travel from Europe is supported with 3 local airports. London Luton is 30 minutes from the track. London Heathrow and London Stanstead are both 60 minutes from the track with free transfer to the hotel and welcome pack for each athlete.
• The hotel accommodation is a 10 minute walk from the track
• To encourage European athletes to travel to our races we are contributing 300 Euros to each athlete’s travel. We also guarantee a 500 Euros appearance fee with the added bonus of our prize structure for finishing in the top three of our race in a fast time.
