Since its formation in January 2005 the Academy has gone from strength to strength and now
boasts over 400 members from all over the country.
It is targeted specifically at athletes aged under 20 years and will act as a stepping
stone to the full senior membership of the British Milers’ Club. It open to athletes who
have achieved the BMC Academy standards and for those moving into the senior ranks they too
will have to attain the full BMC standards.
The Academy provides a pathway based around Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and hopes
to encourage athletes to plan for the future.
We cater for the 400m/800m type of athlete who lacks middle distance experience and there
is an entry standard at 400m for U17 and U15 boys and also U17 girls whilst the U15 girls
are accepted on the strength of their best 300m. These are designed to give the athlete with
poor endurance the time to improve and develop their speed and endurance so they can eventually
gain the standards at 800m, 1500m and 3000m.
UKA qualified coaches are invited to join the BMC and they will be helped and supported
with education and development being one of our main targets. Coaches are welcome at all BMC
events where credits can be gained towards their license renewal.
The Academy provides racing opportunities at our PB Classic Meetings at the legendary
Millfield meeting and at Trafford along with other meetings across the country. Our famous
residential, training and educational courses at traditional venues at Ardingly, Sussex and
Ogmore, South Wales have been resounding successes. These have been added to with extra new
courses at Cliff College, Derbyshire and at Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire and all have
been sell-outs up to 4 weeks in advance. |
